Welcome to a world where ground is 'up'
and ships float on waves of wind.
An ancient cataclysm spat chucks of ground into the sky of Demetria.

The rocks remained aloft because of the buoynat nature of the mutated ore that
propelled them into the sky in the first place.  When conditions on the surface
became dangerous, the former surface dwellers colonized the floating rocks, creating cities in the clouds.

Meridian was the first sky-city and remains the one most connected to its origional form.
Other cities have been encased in iron, sculpted into symmetry or formed from harnessed collections of smaller rocks.
Wood from trees that assimilated the ore into their cells also float.  The ore and the wood are the primary basis of city-to-city trade.  Commerce is the primary cause of inter-city conflict.

A young woman growing up in a fairytale land is the only child of the respected minister and has the entire floating city of Meridian as her playground.
But Sephie learns what the dark side of fantasy is like when she gains the power of the Sigil.  Becoming a Sigil-Bearer makes her a pawn in the hostile takeover of her city-state and the ongoing grab for control of the planet's diminishing resources, masterminded by a second Sigil-Bearer.

The man behind the evil mechinations is also Sephie's uncle Ilahn.  In a world of back-stabbing and intrigue, where greed is the one constant and power the reward,
Meridian is the exception.  When Spehie falls under the control of her Uncle will power corrupt
Good luck Barbara, Steve, Tom and Morry!  Thanks for all the sunsets
